All the "memory is cheap" developers can truly shut the fuck up now.

#Wordle

Very cool. Birthday themed.

I failed to maintain a newsletter/blog this year in part because lack of mobile workflow.

“Hey siri clip from current YouTube video at 00:35-00:48; tag: c++, concurrency; caption: New BLUBs in C++; body: (dictate). Send to BlogInbox.”

Then later I retrieve those things and turn it into a blog post or newsletter item.

iPhone is my platform for mobile. Will process on #freebsd or #macos.

Stop me before I start writing it else…

My family didn't have a computer after the C64 kicked the bucket. Hard to imagine. But I went to visit my friend in California who had moved away and he had a 386 with a 20MB hard drive. He showed me @grumpygamer 's "The Secret of Monkey Island" and I can still sing the theme song from 8bit speaker (didn't have a Sound Blaster, yet). And honestly, it's the biggest banger theme song ever. I sing it when doing laundry or cleaning dishes.

Is it accurate. Probably not. But it's undeniably Correct.

I feel like the Alan Dye era was like having a Republican administration. You take 8-12 years of accumulated wisdom and progress, generally in the right direction, and just when you think we’re getting to a good place, it all gets thrown it in the trash by someone who doesn’t care.
Took an old laptop and put #linuxmint on it and now my son learns computers are for creating not consuming.

Who is even testing #macos anymore? This used to be the Cadillac of UI experiences. But if you disable bluetooth and then reboot

How do you get your bluetooth mouse working again? If you hit Spotlight -> Bluetooth you're given the settings panel, but you can't tab there. There's no fucking keyboard support? Fuck right the fuck off.

Try *cringe* #siri. Nope big ass modal i can't navigate to with keyboard. Now I have two problems.

The solution is run bluetooth file manager which, unlike the CORE FUCKING OS notices that BT is off and asks to turn it on.

That's the solution? That's the fucking solution, #apple ?

Whoever added that check to BT file manager is a goddam 100000x engineer. They were like "Huh, bug reports b/c BT is off will likely bite me, better check it." It looks kinda Aqua-ish so it was probably from Apple's golden age of heroes.

Whoever you are, engineer, you are the best.

Also give #Nyxt a try. It is written in common lisp and is keyboard centric like QuteBrowser, but it also has Emacs and Vim keybindings natively that can be switched to.

MAYBE some of my patches enabled by Al are baroque, I can work on it; but the alternative may be a dead codebase.

Often I see "no Al not one line" posts and think that they may be closing the door for a recruiting and thus theory of the program pipeline.

The number of folks capable of participating in the kernel or KDE or GNOME are few and these projects’ docs are shockingly unempathetic or worse really presumptuous as to what the median possible contributor knows.

It’s fair to be choosy and it’s fair to question the cost benefit AI — but we may be haunted by some of the externalities
