INFO for those that have set up filters in Mastodon:

Just a reminder that the "Whole word" option (seen in the screenshot below) when setting up your filters is useful to pay attention to. The "Whole word" option is basically if you want a keyword/phrase to be filtered exactly or not.

For example, if you input the word "swim" with a checkmark ☑️ it will only filter out:

• swim
• #swim

However, if the box is blank ⬜ it will filter out "swim", as well as the words:

• swim
• #swim
• swimmer
• #swimmer
• outswim
• #outswim
• etc....

This is why some filter lists may be long and not as efficient. You might need to tweak these boxes if the root keyword/phrase you input has a lot of prefixes/suffixes/variations.

If you are unsure whether a box should remain checked or unchecked, it's best to leave it checked so it doesn't filter out unintended terms.
