I could understand if we didn't have an entire bureau of #transportation, that they would need you to tell them where to cut the bushes... but I don't get how it goes into a black box instead of a fishbowl. #Open311 #OpenData

Hey nerds! Join me and @bikeloudpdx for #HackNight this Thursday at 7, back online for the winter (or maybe it is online/hybrid if you invite friends over.) We've got maps-vs-reality updates, #open311 data and budget analysis projects, #eBikes experiments, all kinds of tech fun to dig into if you want to help make #Portland a better city for everyone.
Join grassroots bicycle transportation advocates and open data / open government / open code folks to work on collaborative mapping and resolution of transportation safety issues. Everyone is welcome whether you have years of programming / tech experience or just a few pictures of dirty bike lanes and broken sidewalks. Recurring meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Agenda: * google map corrections, openstreetmap * Bike crash report analysis tools * pdxreporter / 311 open data * whatever else folks are working on or asking about This is an informal work session and hangout, discussion/questions and sharing tech knowledge to collaboratively build political power for safe streets and a complete bike transportation network that works for all people of all ages and abilities.
#BikeNite A6 I'm a big proponent of cities having #open311 data and multiple methods of reporting but #Portland has a not-so-open pdxreporter app with the category "debris in roadway" that you can report accumulations of leaves, glass/gravel in the bike lane & get it scheduled for sweeping relatively quickly. We're advocating for more transparency in that so we can analyze the data & improve policy, but do what you can to notify the agency having jurisdiction in writing.
i made a little tool to bulk download service request data from chicago’s open311 api.
for example, to download all the graffiti and pothole requests in 2022:
chicagorequests --start-date=2022-01-01 --end-date=2022-12-31 -t graffiti_removal -t pothole
