🇫🇷 Il existe un site web et aussi une application qui permet de voir des cartes anciennes de Belgique, la plus ancienne étant celle de Ferraris datant de 1777. C'est intéressant pour voir comment un quartier a évolué. Ainsi, la rue où j'ai grandi a été établie entre 1873 et 1904.
Dans l'application pour smartphone, il y a aussi une série d'itinéraires de balades pédestres sur les traces du passé.
🇬🇧 There is a website and now a smartphone app that let you see old maps of Belgium, the oldest is the Ferraris map from 1777. It is very interesting to see how things are changing through the time. I discovered that the street where I grew up, was established between 1873 and 1904.
In the app, there are also several tours on the tracks of the past.

Finally, I want to share maybe the best map I saw. It was a map of the lands around the Mediterranean sea. And it has, sorry to say, pretty ugly drawings of animals.
So next time I think my drawings are bad, I will do my best to remember these drawings that were, 500 years later, top tier exhibit material.

The story had everything: shipwrecks, a monastery in Greenland with geothermal heating, cannibals who had to be taught how to fish, and a hostile island whose locals chased them off. The map was initially taken seriously and incorporated into the work of major cartographers, including Gerardus Mercator!
