We should make voting as easy as possible.
Suggesting people who register to vote on the day of an election are lazy and/or disengaged and we should disallow it - is just another form of voter suppression. #nzvotes

Recounts likely as some margins are so small - 4 votes is smallest #NZvotes #nzpol

Which two out of these three do politicians want:
- Cheap
- Fast
- Accurate?

Unless MPs are willing to pay for higher cost of Electoral Commission taking on more contractors or paying them overtime, the trade offs would be speed vs accuracy. Vote successes can have small margins so accuracy is important.

Cost and number of contractors hired? Does incoming PM really want those to be higher? #NZpol #NZVotes2023 #nzvotes

Boost in Electoral Commission funding could speed up counting, but not by much - Graeme Edgeler

After three weeks, the makeup of the next Parliament will be clearer when the full election results are released at 2pm.

RNZ

General Election results emerging in Aotearoa New Zealand are looking dismal.

At present, they've counted about 25% of the vote, and it looks like the the centre-right National party are heading for a landslide win. Jacinda Ardern’s old seat is likely to go to the National party.

If Chris Luxon is the new PM, you can expect more neoliberal, big-business, religious, racist, sexist, anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQI+ bigotry, and I imagine a bunch of other garbage that is stock-in-trade for RWNJs.

As an Australian, I thought NZ was supposed to set a high standard for Australia to aspire to. SMH.

#NZvotes

Watching #NZvotes online and remembering the Kiwi tradition of camping out outside the leaders’ homes waiting for impromptu doorstop appearances on election night. Much better than workers clubs or swanky ballrooms.

Accurate but depressing comic on choices facing people.

In my neighbourhood today a candidate for #2023Election #NZVotes stood at a street corner and politely answered questions from future voters, all over 50YO. Their concerns may not match those of voters in their 20s and 30s but they'll definitely be voting but maybe thinking of #CostOfLiving not #ClimateEmergency. #NZPol

Sure we should let 16yo vote in Australia too, but it needs to be non-compulsory.
