Potential tornadic rotation has also just pushed east of Leesburg moving towards Westerly, Wesmond, and will probably pass just south of Germantown (Blackrock Estates, Kingsview Knolls, Brookmead North). #NorVA #VAwx
The flood watch for northern Virginia and D.C. will likely be lifted soon as storms have pushed into Baltimore and most of eastern/coastal Maryland, with a few other heavy showers in tow west of Frederick. #NorVA #MDwx
Manassas to Leesburg, east to D.C. and northeast to Baltimore are under a flood watch from noon today through this evening; forecast models are bullish on showers and storms developing this afternoon, mostly concentrated over northern Virginia and into central/eastern Maryland (with a few further south in/around #RVA), some of which could produce heavy downpours. Lack of upper level steering winds means storms are likely to not move quickly and sort of meander in place until they rain themselves out. #NorVA #DCwx #MDwx
Storms popping #NorVA and south central #MDwx
A little bit cooler today across #NorVA and D.C./Baltimore with highs only in the mid/upper 70s, and some scattered storms moving through mid to late afternoon. Don't think much will reach #RVA though.
Just a few garden-variety thunderstorms dotted across #NorVA this afternoon, nothing severe and not expecting anything like yesterday. More widespread storms likely tomorrow but Storm Prediction Center doesn't anticipate severe weather then either.
@lf_araujo Great thought! I think I'll start using hashtags for specific regions of the DMV (like #SWVA for southwest Virginia, #CoastalVA for areas along the bay and Norfolk/VA Beach area, etc. and #NorVA for northern Virginia) that way folks can mute the tags not relevant to them, and follow the ones that are.
