#Question How would you reimagining, reinventing email & usenet in 2025?

An open, terminal native, low-resource, slow pace, textual/unicode, store & forward, self-configuring, delay & disruption tolerant, inherently private & secure, spam-free, peer-to-peer, trivial to self-host, with self-generated self-owned addresses (eg: ssh public keys) which you can take with you from system to system?

#NomadicIdentities #SelfHosting #StoreAndForward #DelayAndDisruptionTolerant
#EMail #UseNet #ReImagined

@fresseng @zacchiro @unif we need both: instances offered as a service by public sector and strongly organised civil society and more on the edge instances to keep the whole world open and resilient (staying dictature-proof can only be a best-effort kind of initiative). As persons we have to give time to the public sector and civil society, give money to let’s say @LaQuadrature and @admin etc, and great care to open protocoles and software (I liked the appeal of #hubzilla #nomadicidentities).
I just learned about #nomadicIdentities and how #openwebauth can solve the biggest gripe I have with the #fediverse: remote content I want to interact with. https://wedistribute.org/2024/03/activitypub-nomadic-identity/
Oh, Zot! Nomadic Identity is Coming to ActivityPub

One of the Zot's most powerful concepts for identity management and remote access is being ported to work on ActivityPub. It could change the Fediverse.

We Distribute
A good post from @We Distribute on both Open Web Auth and Nomadic Identities, why they are important to the fediverse, and work that's being done to implement it on top of ActivityPub:

@harriorrihar

To avoid be blocked, you could try #hubzilla It is part of the #Fediverse, but it has a special and revolutionary feature: #nomadicIdentities

That means you can replicate your #identity in several servers, and if any of them disappear, ban you, etc. doesn't matter, you still own your own identity ;-)

For example, my account there: @arbocenc

@helene I don't understand: you enjoy spam?
(the differences between #ZOT and #Activitypub are hudge, from anti-spam by design to #nomadicIdentities)
@[email protected] #Peertube should really implement #zot and #NomadicIdentities if such shutdowns are frequent...

#Solid would work so good with #Zot (and its #NomadicIdentities): Solid for the "store and secure your datas where you want" aspect, and Zot for "sync your datas between backups, share them with who you really want, and get the ones you really expect".
