News / Nintendo WFC: Online servers for Wild World and Let's Go To The City shut down 10 years ago yesterday

Forgot to mark the occasion, sorry.

Yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of online servers were killed off for Animal Crossing Wild World and Animal Crossing Let's Go To The City.

On May 20th 2014, online services for the #NintendoWii and #NintendoDS consoles were discontinued. It was speculated that they were discontinued since they had used GameSpy infrastructure which was actively being killed off by IGN for a few years at the time of shutdown.

A few weeks beforehand, the #NintendoWFC replacement #Wiimmfi was released in the hope of supporting many Wii and DS games, and to this day, they support the vast majority of Wii and DS games fully.

OMG!!!! Did everyone else know about this? Somebody has created a service that has restored #NintendoDS #NintendoWFC online services for all games.

I suggest not leaving 802.11b on all the time because that is weak as hell and you also can only use WEP. I'm going to set this up on a guest network so I can turn it off and on as I please when I'm not using it. No way in hell I'm letting this on the network with everything else. #wifi #onlineservices #retrogaming https://youtu.be/eST2TgQNoOI?si=ONz6RuzS6i-4X-e6

well, it seems that, starting today (1st august 2023), Nintendo WFC's login servers are starting to go dead and returning the discontinued error code for all games, including the 3 remaining online ones

seems to be a gradual rollout, sometimes you can make it past login and fail svcloc, sometimes both work, but it's not looking good
all servers seem to be returning 20110 now. rip
