I dug out an old much-loved-at-the-time camera – my second-ever digital camera, the Nikon E995

For ages it was out of use because the external flash connections were dodgy, so abandoned because it was unreliable in serious use, and also the batteries diminished until they only gave a few seconds life

At some stage more recently I must’ve got a third party battery (it was a surprise when I saw it) and that only gives in indication of low (I think that’s all it ever did – the battery metering is prob a fault in the cam, or alternatively the charger is never fully charging any of the batts)

Anyway, I took it out and did a quick shot in Beckton Park just as the sun went down and remembered why I really appreciated this camera ~20 years ago

Digital Nostalgia - 5 Early Digital Cameras from between 2001 and 2005 - By Bob Janes

The world spins. Everything comes around. Eventually we start to get misty-eyed about stuff that seems to have only just left the room. Yes, I'm at that point. I’m about to get nostalgic about digital cameras. There was a sort of proto age of digital cameras at the start of the millennium, just before DSLRs started to dominate. Back then, digital cameras were possibly at their most varied and most innovative.
