Supplement to report 40.01.01 [https://cohost.org/Sector23/post/763211-sector-01-principal]. ---------------------------------------- TAPANA PENAL COLONY || Habitability: 3 || Population: 1 || Authority: 3 || Technology: 2 || || Supply: N/A || Demand: Culture (discourse), Technology (medicine) || ---------------------------------------- HABITABILITY & POPULATION Tapana is tidally locked. One face always faces its star. The other, the void of space. Between the unceasing atomic fire and the deadly cold of absolute zero is a narrow band of perpetual twilight where life muddles by. Tapana is home to around 30,000 residents scattered across the circumference of the habitable zone in settlements of no more than a few dozen members. Mostly religious communes. AUTHORITY The residents of Tapana are descended from former citizens of Jurai. Mostly ex-priests and their followers. Heretics who preached a message contrary to the Ecclesiarch's. Now, they and all their descendants are condemned never to leave Tapana. Even generations after exile, these heretics continue to practice their faith. The doctrine of most regard the Jurai organism as something to dominate, or to be dominated by. Rather than something to live with in community, as the Ecclesiarch and their priest's teach. -- TECHNOLOGY The residents of Tapana can fabricate rudimentary solar panels and lithium batteries, which they use to provide electric light and some climate control. There are no large predators to necessitate weapons manufacture, and most of the cults are peaceful enough. They mostly do battle with words when they talk to each other at all. ---------------------------------------- KEY NPCS Lore Birchwood. A Kombinat logistics expert who dabbled in smuggling and got himself exiled to Tapana. His employer will pay a hefty bounty for his return to Kombinat Tertia. Roman Moonshine. Captain of the Fifth Bough, the Jurai warship that stands watch over Tapana. Bored and irritable. ---------------------------------------- OPPORTUNITIES Bored philosophers on Jurai want to debate heretics. They're willing to risk the wrath of the Rangers and pay good money to any crew foolish enough to relay messages back and forth to Tapana.
