Thatβs dangerous thinking.
Even worse is the giddy excitement coming from parts of his base. The chest thumping, the calls of Carney next, the casual acceptance of authoritarian behaviour as long as it hurts someone they donβt like. That kind of bloodlust has no place in Canadian politics. None. We are not a country that celebrates lawlessness just because itβs wrapped in a flag we recognize. Take note of those people.
If you believe in democracy, you believe in rules, even when theyβre inconvenient. Especially when theyβre inconvenient. You donβt get to abandon international law because Trump feels powerful this week. You donβt get to clap like trained seals while another countryβs sovereignty is trampled.
Canadaβs role in the world should be measured, principled, and lawful. Not reactive. Not ideological. And certainly not aligned with a man who treats the global order like a reality TV stunt.
Poilievreβs, approval should worry anyone who cares about where this country is headed. Because once you normalize lawlessness abroad, itβs only a matter of time before someone tries it at home.
