We could go with something like "Lifetime Achievement in CC Music & Netlabels" and that would cover a ridiculous amount of the material out there. And we could specify that anything listed under the @dogmazic licenses applies. It's a little clunky but not too bad.

"Lifetime Achievement in CC & Net Native Music" would be another option. Netlabels are, by official #netlabelday definition, going to release under a #netnative license so we promote the idea of Net Native.

And there's more!

Never really used this account much but going to start today with a weekly #netlabel release.

This project will not be a bot in order to make sure the releases are #ccmusic and will also limit itself specifically to netlabel releases.

On #netlabelday we will just let the @netlabelday releases be the releases of the week, essentially treating #NLD as a pop-up label for the week.

In case you are curious about the focus on curators, check this out: https://friendsofccmusic.org/2026/02/03/a-change-of-agenda/

As always, plz boost!

A Change of Agenda

Alien Nesby aka A23P aka Al talks about dealing with changing circumstances as “riding the waves.” I don’t know if he came up with it originally. If you have ever been surfing, yo…

Netlabel Day 2026 is 4.5 Months away. What this means is that you need to start thinking about your upcoming releases. If you are a netlabel or musician that releases once a month, think about either holding your June release until July 14, or moving up your July release to the Bastille Day.

The French Revolution is…a complete mixed bag (the first one specifically, but I mean the fact that there are three kinda tells you all you need to know). They killed a ton of people, they abolished slavery, they made great discoveries like the Rosetta Stone, they created a literal Cult of Reason, but they also lacked the basic understanding of economics or of regional differences in France that went back millennia (you know, Vikings in the north, Caesar in the south – stuff like that).

But through it all, Bastille Day remains. I mean, maybe not through it all, a king, dictator, emperor, Directory, Committee, Assembly, or Thing (I mean, I did just mention Vikings, right?) might have gotten rid of it at some point. Who can keep up and it kinda doesn’t matter. Bastille Day remains.

Bastille Day was not the end of the Revolution. It was not really a great victory. It was not really the beginning of the Revolution. The Estates General had already been convened for more than months at the storming of the Bastille.

I said the Bastille was not a great victory, and yet it was. The Bastille showed the commoners that if they came together they really could fight royal power. It was and is a reminder that no matter if Odin himself crowns you King, that you ultimately serve at the will of the people. No great feudal lord was ever going to win a war if his people were starving. Even the most military of dictators ultimately serves by the will of the soldiers. Those soldiers are people.

And although like the French Revolution the CC Music Community has had enlightened music aristocrats such as Trent Reznor and Amanda Palmer lend some support to our cause, we the people are still here.

I don’t think July 14 was picked because it was Bastille Day, but it is unambiguously a day of the people. And that is why I urge you to be a part of the people on July 14. Even if you release an album on June 30, save a track to be an exclusive release on July 14. People that may not even know your netlabel exists will see your Netlabel Day release. Save a release for selfish reasons. Save a release for egalitarian reasons. What’s important is that we come together, and we can’t be together without you.

#netlabelDay 2026 will be as for each year for mid-July, it will be the 12th edition. On this 50-hours day (from July 14th UTC+14 to the end of July 14th UTC-12) #ccmusic makers gather, they release releases, the Netlabel Day Radio hosts special & live programs, concerts are made, podcasters are podcasting, and all the usual free culture celebration takes place.

We just noticed the creation of @netlabelday dedicated to the event. Be sure to follow to catch most of the vibe !

(1/2)

Different #Netlabels are - in a variety of different ways - already meeting or at least trying to meet these needs. Additionally, @wiloma has taken the step to include Netlabel-of-one musicians in #Netlabelday

As such, @friendsofccmusic is going to use the federation that already exists and focus exclusively on #podcasters & netlabels. There is, of course, plenty of overlap. @tmray for example is a musician and a podcaster. The orgs mission will be on the podcaster and netlabel side though.

Anniversary of Creative Commons 25th in slightly less than 24 hours. If I had planned this better I could have sent it out 25 hours in advice.

All are welcome! You can come and listen or share music. You can also chat via text (or audio) with #downtempo artist Viktor Van Riverr, hip hop musicians Cheese & Pot-C. Maybe they will bring Longjohn! Doubt they will be there the whole time due to timezones, but we shall see!

URL is meet.jit.si/ccmusic

You can inspect the jitsi code at https://sourceforge.net/projects/jitsi-meet.mirror/files/ or https://github.com/jitsi

No login is required (except for moderators, aka me). No audio is required. No video is required.

You can join from any browser or pick up the app: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jitsi.meet/ (also available from Apple and Google)

Sharing options are a bit different on different platforms.

I'll post the watch/listen URL once it is created. I have tried to get those URLs to work ahead of time and I can't always get it work the way I want of OBS.

We'll be live somewhere at https://www.youtube.com/@friendsofccmusic though. Afterwards, the video should sync to https://dalek.zone/c/cc_community_music_awards/videos but if not I will do it manually. At some point I will get the live stream via PeerTube working but so far I have not had success with that.

There is also work going on to use owncast in the future. @wjmaggos is leading that project if you want to help him out.

If you can't make it, setting up your own event is highly encouraged! You can also join The Bugcast or RynoTheBearded tonight for their weekly celebrations of #ccmusic

If these sorts of get together's sound fun, but January isn't a good time, we help put on a 51-hour music only stream with @wiloma in July for #netlabelday. Never too early to start thinking about #netlabelday2026!

If there are things you would like me to play tomorrow, feel free to send suggestions! No genre limitations. It is a 4 hour event, so probably nothing over 20 minutes, but if you have longer suggestions I can always play a portion. If things thin out after the Asians leave then maybe I will play something long while I hang out and wait for folks. Drop in any time.

If you have questions, let me know! I should probably send this out or that slightly less than 24 hours is no longer going to be true! As always, please boost!

Aside from #netlabelday is there any org where #netlabels come together? I dont think there is. There are a few scene resources like Netlabel Archive but I dont think anyone is coming together.

Is this just because people that run netlabels have no time?

Is it because things are too globally distributed? Organizations like the CNCF get around this by having events in different locations.

Is it a language thing?

Are people just not interested?

And if you are a #musician wondering what netlabels are like, you can ask or check out netlabelguide.com

If you are a #netlabel not currently listed on the site, that list is pulled from github or you can send me your info and I can add you.

since I've got some char left...

if you want to talk to someone about #netlabelday check our @wiloma

If you want to speak to a musician about releasing on a netlabel, @tmray has experience with that.

Also, I have an idea...

@dogmazic published its monthly bulletin today! In the "new releases for August" got reviewed the three #netlabelDay albums we published for the #netlabelday2025:

* Gorbie's Stuff (#powerpop #punk)
* The Big Circus Project (#punkrock #alternativerock)
* DidJaws (#electronica #idm)

As of per usuel with an accurate pen. Please take a look -maybe, autotranslate?- https://musique-libre.org/blog/2025/09/10/editorial-de-dogmazic-net-de-septembre-2025/ #ccmusic #byncsa #byncnd #netlabels
