More thinking about the book White Trash by Nancy Isenberg. It's depressing how thoroughly this book shows that "Fuck you I got mine" embodies almost all American and British thought. Poor people -- whatever their color -- have always been othered and derided and haven't had much they could do about it as all the secret knowledge of law and access to back room dealing has always been in the hands of capitalists. I'm only up to the 1860s-70s and am seriously in need of some sort of reason to feel a wee bit more like this is something that can be changed. TBH, I'd see no reason to believe, except everyone does now have the vote (if they can keep from being disenfranchised) and the internet helps change the balance of knowledge. It doesn't do anything about access to the backroom, though. Let's see if the sections on unionization when I get there help any. #whitetrash #nancyIsenberg #class #history
