Yes, you may have had a great time visiting as a kid on your school trips or whatever. Nostalgia is not an adequate analysis.
The reality is you probably didn't get much more knowledge out of it than spectacle and also didn't notice the dust on the exhibits because... well frankly you were too small.
I am not theorising when I say our current cultural landscape fundamentally cannot do the work of adequately safeguarding collections or communicating with the wider public.
We are underfunded, ill-resourced and all the while working to financial paradigms that do not allow this work to be sustainable or long-term.
