Tab hoarding is leading to stress and information overload, and distraction, since the Middle Ages.

Having too many tabs opened in your browser is called tab hoarding. The scribe from 1400 Europe already had an idea. The image is from SBB Ms. germ. fol. 1191.

Late lunchbreak, very late morning and taking a moment to step outside, feel the cold air on the terrace, notice the crowd of pupils hustling through the office backyard. Slow rewind, as if getting in touch with where these threads started is required to rejoin them. Multitasking and its amazing consequences, slightly dizzy again.

11am and on. A rolling day made of rolling hours. Slightly dazed. Rapid context switching, repeatedly cutting fingers with inconvenient tools. A walk perceived to be way longer than it actually is. Not really pleased with the distance achieved.

💾 Restoring temporary workspaces. The morning has seen a sufficient amount of conflicting tasks already, and it's still too early to tell whether this will settle. The benefits of fruits, again, with the coffee. And more fresh air.

Closing in on 10am. An attempt to defend focus mode against the demands of the hours, seeing reserved time frames shrink. Some things take longer, sometimes waiting tricks one into pursuing other challenges, sometimes getting lost in unrelated topics makes reconnecting rather hard. Too many frames on the stack, still piling.

(Sometimes, task juggling helps staying awake. Sometimes, task juggling and context switching adds to feeling tired and overwhelmed. Sometimes, there's way more input than one feels up to consume in generally tense days. How to stay calm for those that might need it when being stirred and torn oneself?)

10am and on. Short intervals, different people, random issues. Phone ringing, interrupting already fragile processes of thought. That mode again: Communicate, collect, write down, forget at least for now. There will be a time to wrap it all up. Later. Maybe.

9am and on. Plan for long, cut things short, and try to figure out what to spend time gained in between. Never running short of tasks to fill these kinds of voids but always overestimating ones on cognitive abilities while dancing in between these. Stories of fog and noise, not always pleasant.

Heading for 9am. Day's filling up quickly, first calls, first head-scratching moments, first counting of breath to slow down a bit. (Wrestling, again, that unsettling feeling of handling too many fragments to really solve the puzzle, or any puzzle at all.)
