The hike did not disappoint. Literally everything is covered in moss, lichen and mushrooms. Truly a fairy land.
We walked for around six hours, even had to take our shoes off several times because the trail was flooded. Towards the end we visited an old Abbey in ruins (Muckross Abbey) that was really beautiful with a super old yew tree growing in the central courtyard. In the evening, we went to a local pub for some food and mocktails. It was a long day and I just woke up after sleeping for 10 hours uninterruptedly. Hiking in the cold Irish wind does seem to be exhausting πŸ˜…

The Tree in Muckross Abbey

When you visit Muckross Abbey in Killarney, one thing that immediately catches your eye is the magnificent tree that grows right in the middle of the building. The tree is so large that it almost looks like it’s part of the abbey, as if the building had grown around it over time.

Taking a photo of this tree is an absolute must if you’re a photography enthusiast. As you stand there, camera in hand, you can’t help but marvel at the sheer size of this tree, as its branches extend high into the sky. It’s truly a sight to behold. And if you’re lucky enough to visit on a sunny day, the way the light filters through the leaves is simply magical.

For #ThickTrunkTuesday (glad to see it), a huge pine located at #MuckrossAbbey #Killarney in 2015. It's been identified online as both a Monterey Pine and a Sitka Spruce (w/girth of 4.62 m). Any #tree experts out there who can ID it definitively?
