Metro train frequencies overnight on New Years Eve shows that Melbourne has the infrastructure and the rolling stock to handle the all-day all-week train service a city of 5 million actually needs.
(except Upfield line where duplication would help a lot)
Apparently my parents' train is running 8 hours late. Sounds about right for the eastbound Empire Builder.
People wonder why Americans aren't fond of passenger rail. It's because it is terrible in this country; infrequent, often late, and doesn't go many places.
