Our gray cattle on the pasture in autumn. The large hazelnut bush near the house has already been largely plundered by jays and squirrels.
Also, our cat Minzi (the small white dot under the little spruce tree) seems to be on the lookout for prey in the woods.
I am not responsible for the black shit in the upper right corner of this photo. A few terms have stuck with me from my economics studies, such as 'surplus' and 'excess burden'. These terms could also describe the excessive use of liquid fertilizer and how it destroys ecology and biodiversity just to squeeze a few more euros out of the poor soil.

It's nice to find part of a ridge that still has mixed forest, and area that has avoided becoming a Cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) plantation. It feels different. I haven't done this ridge walk for a year or two. But it is time to dedicate Sundays to this sort of healthy motion and thought. Next time I'll think to let the dog of the lead so getting through the fallen and tangled trees is easier. I don't think Maron will go far. She can be nervous. She wasn't all that sure she wanted to leave the road at all this time.. Even on the road she kept looking back wondering what we were doing... She gave up on the crab a lot faster than she gives up on the frogs by the river..
