The panorama setting on the camera is helping me get a view of the ridge walk. The efflorescence of Castonopsis tress on the left border the Kamione park. Walking up the forestry road that runs along the side of the park gets you over a ridge to where you can follow another down around this valley to come out among a cluster of houses. It's a nice walk with enough of a slope for a workout sort of feel to it. And the variety forest is interesting: the relatively bright sections of large well-spaced Cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) trees, dark sections of small densely planted Cryptomeria and a great section of large Lucydophil (照葉樹林 しょうようじゅりん or Laurel) trees...

I went on a ridge walk for the first time in a year or so. A typhoon collapsed the start of the walk, a forestry road, into some rice fields below. But you can get to the road above through the park. With less traffic the roads are more overgrown but sill decent for walking. It's good to notice how much upkeep and traffic roads need to remain passable.

I have to e better about getting into this ridge walk more often. I start out on the right where the remaining mixed forest is at the edges of a bit park. After walking up through the part there is a good up-slope work out through Cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) plantations.. But even a monoculture forest can be calm and nice, maybe too quiet.. And the mixed forest is always working it's way back here and there. The mixed forest of big trees on the opposite ridge on the way back is the best. Being there for a while is the main goal of the whole walk I guess. But It seem like cheating to go directly. For some reason it's better to get tired while walking up and down the plantation slopes before reaching the holy place, the sacred variety... #RidgeWalk #尾根散歩 #三股町上米公園

It's nice to find part of a ridge that still has mixed forest, and area that has avoided becoming a Cryptomeria (Japanese cedar) plantation. It feels different. I haven't done this ridge walk for a year or two. But it is time to dedicate Sundays to this sort of healthy motion and thought. Next time I'll think to let the dog of the lead so getting through the fallen and tangled trees is easier. I don't think Maron will go far. She can be nervous. She wasn't all that sure she wanted to leave the road at all this time.. Even on the road she kept looking back wondering what we were doing... She gave up on the crab a lot faster than she gives up on the frogs by the river..
