Somehow, I made the cut in Round 1 of NYC Midnight's 250 word microfiction challenge, so I guess I've gotta come up with another story! Currently wondering just how much I can stretch the boundaries of Suspense/Thriller to make it a comedy. I believe in myself.

"That... is not the man I married," she screamed as she strode into the copse behind her home. After roughly tossing a few shovelfuls of dirt behind her, she added firmly, "And I can prove it!"

I might’ve missed the genre on my story, so I wrote a new one about a bomb and princess actor at a Kid’s party.

I think that’ll hit the Thriller genre better.

Prolly find a use for the original someday

Did the edits based on feedback. Still at the 250 word limit.

I hope it's more suspenseful, and that the reveal is clearer.

I've got about 15 hours to wrap it up and submit. And other stuff to do today. So it'll sit for a bit, then I'll be back at it for one last check.

We'll see if I can get feedback on it. That's always tight with short deadlines and folks' own things going on.

NYC Midnight challenge started.

250 words
Genre: Suspense/Thriller
Action: shutting the closet door
Word: Recognize

My 2nd draft is done, took about 30 minutes. I had to fork a copy as I was running out of words and needed to reconsider some elements.

With a tight limit, I have to stick to one metaphor.

I need to let it sit a bit so I can see the forest for the trees.

I liked this little guide I saw from my Discord writing group. Meant to help those who’ve never written suspense before. #nycmidnight #microfictionchallenge250

@nikkirivera I stayed up late to#write a 250 word flash for the #nycmidnight #microfictionchallenge250 ! My prompts were suspense/thriller, looking in a doghouse, split. I’ve never written a #suspense or #thriller before, so it was very challenging and stretched my #writing skills to the limit! Here’s to crossing my fingers that I get to stretch again!!! #WritingCommunity #WritersLife #AuthorsLife #author #authors #FlashFiction
