Michelle Blades is an artist with an eclectic approach who was born in Panama as a Mexican-Panamanian, grew up in Florida and Arizona, then settled in Paris, while allowing her exposure to this variety of cultures carry over to her music, album to album. She works off of an indie rock base, but also brings in psychedelia, art pop (along the lines of Cate Le Bon, perhaps), ambient-adjacent electronic music, gentle pop songs with a French twist, and elements of classical music, as well as some cumbia, salsa, and other Latin beats. Pulling off this type of stylistic range takes a good amount of talent, which Blades has in spades, demonstrated in her songwriting chops and her ability to make bold and imaginative choices in delivery.
