I wrote about the rock, metal and punk scene in Bulgaria in the late 80s, in case you want to read about something that isn't horrible and scary

New flowers, black sheep, dancing scorpions - Rock beyond the wall, part I: Bulgaria

I suppose this is pretty ambitious for a blog who’s been out for such a short time, but I’ve had this idea for months and have already done a lot of reading (and some listening). In short, I’d like to look into, write and post a small series of articles about the alternative music subcultures in the dictatorships in the (former) Eastern Block in Europe. As a historian whose main focus is the 20th century, I have the necessary base of knowledge to build upon, as well as the research skills that were drilled into me since my first week at university. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to a lot of scientific databases that might have given me a lot more information to work with (and quote, so my articles look more serious than they are), but I can work around that. And keep a more casual tone so you won’t get bored halfway through.

My blog is online! It's about music, physical media and how to get away from streaming.

JOIN THE TEAM: CORE CONTENT WRITER

Music is at the heart of everything we do, and the site is powered by a small team of writers who share the same passion for heavy metal. As the platform continues to grow, the workload grows with it, and balancing that with our personal lives can be a challenge. To keep the quality high and the content flowing, we are looking to bring one more person into the team.

We need someone who can help with the core content beyond reviews and interviews. This includes news pieces, band of the day, support the scene posts, and other ideas that can help us expand what TheNWOTHM offers. If you care about the underground and want to contribute to something that supports the entire community, we would love to hear from you.

I’m looking for someone who genuinely wants to be part of this for the long run, someone who isn’t just passing through, which can happen far too often in this industry. If you have the passion, believe in what we do, and want to help the site grow into its full potential, then we want you on the team.

What you will be doing

  • Support in sourcing news pieces/ converting press releases into original content
  • Core features – band of the day/ support the scene/ throw back Thursday etc
  • Support in sourcing info on live shows for our live roundup weekly posts
  • Expanding our core content to enhance thenwothm content offerings
  • Reviews (when needed) and support in interview sourcing/questions
  • This list highlights some of the stuff you will be doing…

Does this sound like something you would be interested in? Then fill out the form below or drop [email protected] a message!

Extra brownie points: Since I’m based in the UK, it’s a real bonus if you’re also in the UK or somewhere in Europe. It just makes communication smoother and helps us work together without time‑zone delays, which keeps everything running more efficiently.

Esoctrilihum’s Almost Dead is just two tracks, but it dragged me into the madness and unease—and now I’m binging the whole catalog. This is raw, weird, and has no right being so good.

‘Almost Dead’ Pulled Me Into Esoctrilihum’s Madness and Unease—and I’m Not Climbing Out

Esoctrilihum’s Almost Dead popped up in my feed and immediately impressed me—it had no right being this good. The album is just two tracks: the first is a mellow, atmospheric instrumental, but the …
