I'm getting just a tad bit tired of companies re-appropriating terms like "local first", "operating system", "internet".
"Local first" is not "uses a datacenter in your general area".
And neither "operating system" nor "internet" mean "a closed source website with a closed beta that breaks basic web features".

The first one is of course from an AI company that I won't name. The second is from #Metalabel and from them I actually expected better, but maybe I was misguided.

This is quite an interesting approach, reminds me a bit of the short lived Assembly freelancing experiment.

'What's the difference between an #artist and a #creator?

Yancey Strickler on the #Metalabel Blog:

https://blog.metalabel.com/whats-the-difference-between-an-artist-and-a-creator/?ref=the-metalabel-blog-newsletter

โ€˜Creative work done for artistic purposes is thought to exist for reasons above #money. "Love and honorโ€ is a convenient excuse to not compensate for it, โ€œexposureโ€ too. Creative work for commercial purposes, on the other hand, can be handsomely rewarded. โ€ฆ

The people who make the first kind of work are historically called โ€œfine artists.โ€ The people who make the second kind of work are called โ€œcommercial artists.โ€ โ€ฆ.

In recent decades a similar but distinct creative role has emerged: the creator. People who make a living from #subscriptionsm #crowdfunding, selling #merch, and other forms of direct exchange unlocked by the web. Like artists, creators have a lot of freedom in what they do. โ€ฆ Unlike artists, they don't have to navigate the academy system or #artworld politics to do it. โ€˜

My copy of Chance Would Be a Fine Thing arrived at the weekend.

Itโ€™s a design-forward, twenty-first-century contribution to the tradition of Mallarmรฉโ€™s Un Coup de Dรฉs (A Throw of the Dice). Created by the Bangkok-based collective for potential #design, Copode.

I especially like their refusal to either uncritically celebrate #AI or lapse into fatalism about it. I also appreciate their emphasis on creating something unexpected, something that even takes them by surprise, as well as the way the #book looks toward exploring alternative models for collaboration between humans and #technologies.
