Context I observed suboptimal and unsustainable patterns in several groups that I organize events with. For example Berlin Hack\&Tell started out with meetup.com/berlin-hack-and-tell. In the beginning this worked well and helped bootstrapping the community. But capitalism and the process of enshit...
I noticed a number of meetups on meetup.com that I long ago joined shutting-down.
I wonder if this just says something about the meetups I joined — or if this say suggests something broader happening with meetup.com
Has anyone seen similar?
@goodmirek Neither of the alternatives provide similar reach and discoverability to new audiences, at least not in Czechia.
We have all our meetups at https://pyvo.cz, we don’t need an external service where to announce them.
We need a place where people of many backgrounds or ages come and our meetups will appear in search results or recommendations. That’s what #meetupcom is and others are not.
Only alternative is managing several social media channels per each meetup (per city).

Improved communication features in the making, AI-enhanced recommendations in the making, and platform reliability, fixes.
WHAT?
We're not getting anything (yet) apart from regular upkeep and a PROMISE of added features in the future, which we can't even decide if we want to pay for as it's just shoved into our plan whether we want or not.
Sag mir, dass du eine verschissene Drecksplattform hast, ohne mir zu sagen, dass du eine verschissene Drecksplattform hast.
#Fediverse idea:
Was there any try yet to build something like meetup.com for the fediverse yet?
If yes: what happened?
