The BBC responds to my complaint re Prince Harry coverage:-

Following criticism of the framing of our article, we reviewed the text against what Prince Harry had written in the New Statesman.

Although Prince Harry places some emphasis on antisemitism, after review we made some amendments to our article, including moving his reference to anger turned towards communities “whether Jewish, Muslim, or any other” up to the third paragraph.

We also added some further detail from his opinion piece about the scale of loss in the Middle East and added a note advising readers of these changes.

We hope this addresses your concerns, which have been discussed with the senior editors at the website.

So Prince Harry writes an article titled "My fears for a divided kingdom" with the subtitle "We must stand against both anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim hate."

But the BBC headline? "Harry warns of 'deeply troubling' rise in antisemitism in UK."

Notice what got cut? The Islamophobia. The subtitle. The line where Harry writes: "anti-Muslim hatred and all forms of racism draw from the same well of division. They must be confronted with the same resolve."

Harry's original piece explicitly rejects hierarchy among forms of hatred. He writes: "When anger is turned toward communities – whether Jewish, Muslim, or any other – it ceases to be a call for justice."

Yet the BBC framing created the very imbalance he warned against. His words got filtered through a lens that prioritised one form of bigotry over another, even when the source material demanded equal treatment.

This isn't about diminishing antisemitism. It's about exposing how the establishment's selective attention distorts even messages meant to promote unity. When the BBC chooses which suffering to amplify, they're not just reporting, they're shaping the hierarchy.

All bigotry deserves equal condemnation. Not just when it fits the narrative.

Most media debates feel open.
But they’re often structured long before they reach the screen.
This piece looks at how framing, expert selection, and incentives shape what gets discussed — and what doesn’t.
“Freedom of speech exists.
You just have to stay inside the question.”

WE DON’T REPORT THE TRUTH: WE MANAGE THE DEBATE.

Media Framing, Expert Selection, and the Architecture of Managed Debate on Canadian Broadcast Media, A Case Study in Curated Consensus

Curmudgeonly Canadian

We often assume biased media means false information.
More often, it means something subtler:
a narrowing of the conversation itself.

This essay explores how “reasonable” expert panels can produce consensus by defining the problem in advance.
Not by conspiracy —
but by structure.

France 24’s headline leans on Pro-Israel/US Security Posture framing: 'vows' and 'strong support' turn an attack on mediators into 'stability' work. 'Security' and 'counterterrorism' rinse the strike and skip legality, authorization, and who pays the price. Euphemisms aren’t neutral; they take sides in plain sight. #MediaFraming #Euphemisms https://www.france24.com/en/video/20250916-us-secretary-of-state-rubio-vows-strong-support-for-qatar-after-israel-strike

Spot the euphemisms: "breached airspace", "scrambled jets", "beef up defense". Headline fuses causality with "during Russian strikes" while noting "no imminent danger"—threat amplified, nuance erased. Romania’s claim centered, Russian perspective minimal, NATO cast as reactive. Classic Pro-NATO security framing sold as neutral news. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20250913-romania-says-a-drone-breached-its-airspace-during-russian-strikes-on-ukraine #MediaFraming #NATO
Romania says a drone breached its airspace during Russian strikes on Ukraine

Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets on Saturday after detecting a drone that had breached its airspace during a Russian attack on neighbouring Ukraine, the country's defence ministry said. The statement stressed that the drone had not flown over populated areas and had not posed a risk to the population's safety.

Words matter. This piece dresses power in soft terms: "in exchange", "targeted relief", "authoritarian leader"—a neat Pro-Transatlantic Conditionality script. Euphemisms turn sanctions into virtue and make blame flow one way; drills become "threats". Little scrutiny of Western policy design; Belarusian agency flattened. Framing does the heavy lifting. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c740mezey41o #MediaFraming #LanguageMatters
Belarus frees political prisoners in exchange for easing of US sanctions

Fifty-two prisoners have been released, but more than 1,000 political prisoners remain in jail.

Headline alchemy: 'strengthens defences', 'Russian drones', 'shot down', 'incursion'—each choice nudges readers into a Pro-NATO deterrence frame. Intent is assumed as provocation, denials waved off, and escalation risks are glossed over. Scrutinize the framing, not just the facts. Euphemisms make war talk sound tidy.
