June is usually a fairly busy month for butterflies in our garden, the more so because we've deliberately left the grass to grow into patches of meadow, unlike the neighbouring fields which have all been cut for silage (those ground nesting birds may well have probably lost any young they might have had in the process). Farming around here in particular is still about making as much money as possible from the land, and although they waited longer than some others lower down the valley, there's nowhere left for those birds to hide. Anyway, as a hopeful attempt at maintaining some kind of biodiversity, here is a selection of the butterflies that are currently active in our little haven.

This new discovery would‘ve been posted right away if it weren‘t for my old iPad mini‘s LCD display suddenly starting to fail. This made the identification of my very first Carcharodus alceae a little difficult due to my computer’s monitor not being as crisp in terms of colors as an average Apple device screen.
