My mower uncovered this #moth tonight in the long grass, which an internet search indicates that it is probably a male fox moth (Macrothylacia rubi). I thought I might have injured it, as it was vibrating its wings like there was no tomorrow. Turns out, it might well have been warming up and preparing to take flight. Learned something new again.

One of the smaller butterflies in our garden, a #GreenHairstreak, currently feasting on the nectar of one of our Mexican orange plants which is in flower. It always rests with its wings closed, so the bright green parts are pretty much the only thing people remember about it. That, and the white oval around its eye.

Wife was eagle-eyed while strimming this morning along the edge of our herbaceous border near the pond, and managed to avoid damaging this amazing little creature.

Now you see me, now you don't.
I have tried in the past to get pictures of one of the black woodpeckers that live near us, and they are often heard, but quite difficult to get close to without scaring them off. Fortunately, this one obliged our trail cam while we were away. Even then, you have to look pretty hard to spot it in the second picture, before it took off, and the first picture shows it from the back, flying away, so is a bit too blurry.
At least the red crown is visible in part.

I mentioned a hare in an earlier post, so here we are. This is the same spot where we caught a deer grazing, so there must be something very tasty on the ground!

I always find it enjoyable discovering a trail cam sweet spot, where all of the larger animals in our area happen to pass by, often at night.
I have no idea where the set might be, nor even how far they roam.

A young male deer strolls into the field of view of our trailcam from right to left, and proceeds to rub his neck and face up and down the trunk of a small oak tree. We see deer quite a lot on the cams, but this is the first time we've caught them rubbing up against the trees.

Who needs a webcam when you have a photography nerd who never tires of seeing this view?

This is my #silentsunday contribution, from the top of our very small, but busy, wood, at least at this time of year as the birds and the bees get into the swing of things after the winter spent surviving, hibernating or migrating.
