🇫🇷 Bastille Day 🇫🇷 or Fête Nationale, commemorates the day in 1789 when the people charged into Paris’ Bastille, during the French Revolution. The first celebration happened July 14, 1790 - one year later.

Originally constructed as a medieval fortress, the Bastille was eventually used as a state prison, holding political prisoners who spoke against the laws set by the king.
