I’m deeply enraged by the lack of native language support for Haitian Creole on iOS and Android. On iOS, though it does the right thing and provides Haitian Creole as a top level language (ht), it’s basically a localization of French, not transliterated Haitian Creole. On Android, even though Haitian Creole is an ISO language code, it’s not even an option. You can only select French, then a localization for Haiti. How can I select Esperanto but not Haitian Creole? #languageaccess #racism
NWS no longer translating products for non-English speakers

The National Weather Service is no longer providing translations of its products after its contract with an artificial intelligence company was allowed to lapse. It's a change that experts say could put non-English speakers at risk of missing warnings about extreme weather. A weather service spokesperson declined to comment on the lapse of the contract. It comes as the weather service's parent agency, NOAA, is among federal agencies targeted by the Trump administration for aggressive staff and budget cuts. Nearly 68 million people in the U.S. speak a language other than English at home, according to 2019 Census data.

Multilingual ballots are critical for democracy — they help more people be confident voters!

Bonus: English +1 means any ballot can be used by English-speaking voters, reducing how many ballots need to be printed and saving $$$. And this way, all ballots are auditable in English.

I'm putting together a resource on composting with worms in order to have it translated into a few languages spoken in my city, and I plan to print copies to give away with composting worms on Earth Day. Anyone on here want to make suggestions about additional info that would be useful? Comments are open. #compost #EarthDay #LanguageAccess #SomerPoli #SomervilleMA

It is a real blessing to have new people following me on here. For those who haven't done it yet, I am currently doing a global survey of what #churches are doing to provide #languageAccess, if anything.

The survey takes 5-10 minutes and opens in a Google Form from this link:

https://bit.ly/Church-Lang-Survey

Please do boost. I am especially looking for responses outside of the US and UK.

How churches are meeting language needs

The purpose of this survey is to understand how churches are currently meeting language needs. The information gathered in this survey will be used to improve the work that churches do for people who speak different languages. For this reason, after some general questions on your church, which will remain private, the rest of your responses will be stored on public data repository but anonymous, to allow deeper ongoing research. As the information on section 2 could theoretically be used to identify the person who filled this in, this information will be handled under the General Data Protection Regulations of the United Kingdom. It will only be used to group responses to other questions and no individual set of responses will be made available to any other person or organisation. As this survey is entirely anonymous, it will not be possible to delete individual responses later. If you wish any further information, please send an email to Dr Jonathan Downie at churchinterpreting@integritylanguages.co.uk. Please complete all the questions presented to you. If you are happy to proceed, please click "Next" below.
