Swans as ride on pleasure boats, on Lake Ashi at Port Togendai in Hakone, Japan. First image includes the pirate BlueBeak, along with his more normal yellow beak friends. I took these in July 2017 after riding the Ropeway (sort of cable car) from Hakone up over the slopes of Owakudani, where gases vent from the earth. Passengers are given moist towels to wear over the mouth and nose in case the gases become too dense. Getting back to the onsen in Hakone had to be by bus after a severe release of sulphorous gases closed the ropeway.

Day trip to #MountHakone, which has utterly beautiful scenery 🗻🙂‍↕️

Rode the cable car/ropeway to and from the peak and then sailed on a gorgeous pirate ship on a round-trip of #LakeAshi 🚠⛴️

Nabbed some volcanic black eggs to consume that as the prophecy goes, they are meant to extend your life by 7 years 🥚😁

We checked out of the Conrad Tokyo & traveled to Gora, Hakone. We checked into the Indigo and took cable transport to Lake Ashi. We cruised the lake on a "pirate ship" & walked through the Onshi-Hakone Park, with views of Mount Fuji. After, returned to Gora to enjoy our in room onsen!

Hakone Golden Route

After waking up at the Conrad Tokyo and having breakfast, we checked out and took the Shinkansen to Odawara. From there, we took two local trains to Gora in the Hakone region. We checked into the Indigo and took a funicular along with two gondolas to reach Lake Ashi. We boarded a pirate ship to cruise the lake and landed at Hakonemachi. We walked through the Onshi-Hakone Park, with views of Mount Fuji, and ended up at Motohakone, still on the shores of Lake Ashi. From there, we took two busses to complete our loop, returning to Gora to enjoy our in room onsen!

Roving Sun

We were very happy to be able to see Mount Fuji today from Hakone! It was quite hazy though so we couldn't see it too clearly, particularly from down by the lake. The weather is forecast to become cloudy tomorrow so this may be the only glimpse we have on this trip of this majestic but sometimes elusive symbol of Japan.
