The small sourdough breads I made today were okay-ish.
It's the third time the bread disappoints, so I threw my old starter out and started on a new one.
So, in the grip of Baker's Frustration, I decided to bake something else; something I'd never done before: pretzels*.
They, at least, were fine, though I admit I'm no great shakes at shaping.
*but an old Dutch variant, called chez nous: 'krakeling', which roughly translates as 'something that cracks'.
