Tane Mahuta is the largest living #Kauri tree. It is difficult to show the size of these trees in pictures. The trunk of this tree is over 17m high (above that hight the lowest branches grow) and has a circumference of about 13m. The tree is home to a huge variety of other plants (even smaller trees). It is estimated to be between 1200 and 2000 years old. Like all Kauri it is threatened by kauri dieback disease, a fungal infection that usually kills the trees.

#Kauri konnte ich auch ausprobieren. Vom Entscheidungsspielraum sehr begrenzt, so dass ich mich durchaus gelangweilt habe. Für Fans assymetrischer Area Control Spiele mit einem leichten Einstieg aber gegebenenfalls genau das richtige Spiel. #Brettspiele

Day one of 2025 down. Had a walk around the bush and partook in a little #forestbathing - by that I mean I zoned out and listened to the birds, not sure if I was doing it right. I love the bark on the beautiful old #Kauri #trees.

Made curry goat for dinner. It was good but still a little tough needs a bit longer in the instapot next time. Tasted alright though. Not a bad way to spend #newyearsday

Went to see the biggest Kauri tree (Tāne Mahuta) yesterday. They just reopened the redone track a few days ago. Turns out bringing the hiking boots was overkill. It's about 30 sec from the parking lot, over level platforms.
