Progress on my Japanese themed N scale (1:160 scale) Kato Pocketline and Kato Compact Unitrack layout, in a 76 x 39cm box.

In the months since the last post about this layout in June I've purchased more Kato Compact Unitrack, a 2 car Kato Pocketline tram and 2 more freight carriages. I've also decided on a final track plan, and fastened the track to the board with "liquid nails". Recently I started the scenery, which is what most of these photos are. The cutting was made from layered chipboard which was painted and then ground cover added. The platforms are of either plywood or chipboard. Roadways added so far are made from plywood. For an undulating landscape effect elsewhere on the layout I used tissues soaked with diluted PVA glue which was then painted and ground cover added.

After some further consideration regarding the track plan of my new N scale model railway that I first posted about 2 weeks ago, I changed it to that shown here and tested the train on it and it worked better reversing into the spurs. The oval is a bit smaller, but the spurs are better than better.

I have also completed the baseboard, from leftover plywood and chipboard, and added some resistors into the wiring so that the voltage is lower and the train runs at a more realistic speed.
