I just caught a kāhu/hawk!
*It was injured and could almost but not quite fly. I acted on the advice of my local vet and brought it to them. No idea what its outlook is, the med staff were performing a procedure so haven't seen it yet.
A large long-legged harrier with long taloned toes, long pointed wings, prominent facial disks and a strongly hooked bill. Adults have a tawny-brown back, pale cream streaked breast, yellow eyes, yellow cere and a creamy white rump visible in flight; juvenile and immature birds are uniformly dark chococlate brown.

My cat relies on me for food, water, and veterinary care. He shows me affection in return.
He has made it very clear over the years that I do not own him.
Y'all I wrote about my #cats this week for my @solarpunkpresents article bc I'm a hopeless #cat lady and also a chronic overthinker, so of course I'm super conflicted about straight-up owning another living being.
Anyone else feel like this, tho? #Ethics where #pets are concerned are so squishy. I'm glad that the word #kahu exists honestly, shoutout to #Hawaiian people for being mad wise about #relations with non-human #animals.

Using the language of “ownership” to describe humans’ relationship to their companion animal(s) assumes a subject-object relationship, or a hierarchical binary that positions all human animals as superior to non-human animals. Instead of the baggage-laden term of “owner,” then, I propose solarpunks
