Today I built a J-pole antenna for 10 m - very sharp resonance with vswr 1.5. Then I connected my FT-817 and realized that I could hear S6 noise again. The whole thing is unusable here in my QTH.

@nordLab #meshtastic #jpole Hallo Nord-Nerds! Was nimmt man da so?
#jpole #slimjim
I finally got my #jpole mounted again on top of my hamshack, and it's performing amazingly well 🙂

my #2m / #70cm #jpole fell due to the high winds 😢

honestly, given how many high winds we've had over the past two years since I installed it, I'm surprised it has lasted this long

thankfully it isn't broken, so I can remount it when the weather calms down

Does the diameter of the copper pipe used in a #jpole have any bearing on its functionality?
@oh8hub How about making it from an aluminum tube? I have done #jpole antennas just bending an aluminum tube. No soldering needed.

Threw together a 2m #jpole with some speaker wire. The SWR, if my ill-suited meter can be believed, is worse than the rubber duck. I'm not terribly surprised, but I need a better method for adjusting the feed points.

What was a surprise, is that it picks up 70cm way better than the rubber duck. That's probably because the λ/4 section is very close to 3λ/4 for 70cm. Can't test SWR for 70cm, but maybe tuning it for 2m will get okay results for 70cm...
