Jackson State killings - Wikipedia

The next presentation is from Deidre Wheaton from #JacksonState University and member of the Big Data Education Team who described the education collaboration work that the Cluster has done in Mississippi.

Wheaton describes that after establishing collaborative trust between the UVM team and the Jackson State team. With that success the teams redesigned a science teacher training course from the ground up.

@MikeDunnAuthor The people murdered by cops in this incident: Phillip Gibbs and James Earl Green. The latter was actually a high school student who happened to be passing by on his way home from a job. #JacksonState #history #BlackHistory

Attached: 2 images Since people are talking about Kent State, Ohio, 1970, it's a good time to talk about Jackson State, Mississippi, 1970. Similar situation, except there was no active protest, just a bunch of students hanging out. The mayor of Jackson declared a riot and called in the pigs. Someone threw a glass bottle, not at the pigs, but they still opened fire. Phillip Gibbs, a student at Jackson State, and James Green, a high school student who was walking home from his job, were murdered by cops. Many others were wounded. Deion Sanders Leaving Jackson State to Coach Colorado Is No Surprise

His move to the University of Colorado is understandable in the college football world, but that doesn’t mean it can’t hurt given the pledges he had made to his historically Black institution.

Deion Sanders is all in the news now and it seems someone at SB Nation, like me, remembered that Deion once stumped for an As Seen On TV style electric hot dog cooker (and competitor to the much more successful George Foreman Grill).

Shout out to Sue Sipe whose comment made me spit out my drink. Any relation to Brian Sipe??

“What he did was something college coaches do all the time,” Jones added. “You have to sell people four-year, ten-year plans when your plan is one year at a time. That’s really the only way you can pull that off.”
