Just finished a lovely conversation with the general chairs for #chi2023 and one of their assistants. Sharing my experiences from #ismar2022 and #iss2022 along with discussing many other things (I’m the general chair liaison for the @chi steering committee).

The amount of unknown and under appreciated work volunteers do is remarkable.

I for one am looking forward to #chi2023 whether I am there in person or online. Hybrid conferences are evolving all the time in the face of time zones etc.

Honestly, the conference talk on VR colonoscopies I went to this morning was exceptionally good. #TeHerengaWaka #HCI #ISS2022

Re-locations: augmenting personal and shared workspaces to support remote collaboration in incongruent spaces | Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction

Augmented reality (AR) can create the illusion of being virtually co-located during remote collaboration, e.g., by visualizing remote co-workers as avatars. However, spatial awareness of each other's activities is limited as physical spaces, including ...

We developed a stripped-down image-based model to recognize some silent speech commands almost as fast as #speech. Then, evaluated target selection with #eye-gaze pointing + silent speech, where it was comparable to speech. Will present at #ISS2022 https://youtu.be/EZTcyicU5_0 #theiilab

We compared mid-air selection with Push, Tap, Dwell, Pinch augmented with Select, Hover & Select ultrasonic feedback in a Fitts' law study. Tap was the fastest, most accurate. Both feedback methods improved performance. Will present at #ISS2022 https://youtu.be/qUSAAMvqxF8 https://www.theiilab.com/pub/Dube_ISS2022_Mid_Air_with_Haptics.pdf #theiilab
