Instant compositions, created absolutely ad hoc: based on Butch Morris' method 'Conduction', the VIO developed the comprehensive praxis of 'Instant Composition Conducting', a few components: *absolute ad hoc creation - on the part of the ensemble and the conductor, *no rehearsals, *developing instant compositions btw 35-50 minutes, *each concert features a new, curated ensemble constellation, a.o..
Around 200 musicians from the fields of free improvised music, jazz, electronics and contemporary composed music have been involved, in always genderbalanced line-ups.
The VIO has been a guest at the Moers Festival, Wien Modern, the Artacts festival f jazz & improvised music, at numerous spaces in the context of the fine arts, at the Porgy&Bess, Brut Wien a.m.m.
Founded by Michael Fischer in 2004, the VIO is one of the earliest, continuously working improvisation orchestras worldwide.
