Nice shot of Jesse Holmes and team as they head to the burled arch finish line on Front St. in Nome! Oh, how I loved being there and watching these teams come it. Nothing quite like it. Photo credit The Nome Nugget. #Alaska #Iditarod2025 #LastGreatRace
Jesse Holmes won the Iditarod. Now, I don't know why there isn't an Alaskan flag where he is sitting, but ok. Jesse was born in Alabama, but has lived here for many years. I do like the blue and yellow on the dogs! #Alaska #Iditarod2025 #LastGreatRace http://www.nomenugget.net/news/jessie-holmes-wins-2025-iditarod

Here‘s the portrait shot of Polar, while his brother Arctic maybe didn’t want all that media hype 😎😉

Here they are, winning the race of over 1100 miles. Pets and treatos for Polar and Arctic, the lead dogs. 🐕💖🐕💖 #Iditarod2025
Iditarod Sled Dog Race fans: Two teams are now in White Mountain, and right on schedule, winds are ramping up across the Topkok Hills. The NRCS Johnson Camp weather station is right on the coast a few miles east of the Solomon River and is usually reasonably representative of conditions on the trail from out of White Mountain to the Safety Checkpoint. #akwx #Iditarod2025 @Jdnome @Climatologist49

There's a new video interview of Q at Kaltag where he's doing his 24hr rest and it's really great - I can't direct link to the vid but it's on this page.

2025 Iditarod Lineup

Iditarod

Musher Gabe Dunham of Willow, Alaska, scratched at 8:03 a.m. AKST today at the Eagle Island checkpoint. She still had 14 dogs in harness when she arrived in Eagle Island.

That makes her the 6th musher to scratch during this year's Iditarod race:

Gabe Dunham
Jeff Deeter
Mike Parker
Daniel Klein
Brenda Mackey
Charmayne Morrison

First of all, it’s good to read that Jett, the dog in Brenda Mackey’s team that needed bet assistance, is better again. The more concerning part when you read that story of Brenda’s post on FB is that the mushers are handed out SOS devices that are either malfunctioning or not explained enough or not usable intuitively. Either one of these explanantions is more than "sub-optimal" for conditions like the Iditarod race.

Iditarod musher Brenda Mackey says she scratched after a dog emergency on the trail

Mackey described trying to care for a collapsed animal and doubling back to the Tanana checkpoint after requesting help, and her later confusion over how the situation was initially characterized.

Anchorage Daily News
Things have been so insane that I have not posted any photos from the Iditarod! First of all, the race started in Fairbanks because there is literally no snow in Anchorage or South Central. The lead teams should be crossing the finish line (under the burled arch) in Nome at the first of next week. Here's the End of the Iditarod Arch that arrived in Nome today and is being put together so it will make it to Front St. in Nome this weekend for sled teams to run under it next week.
