Use Of Weapons - Ian M. Banks
Listening to the audio book "Consider Phlebas" by Iain M. Banks. It's just so good. And relevant.
If you haven't read it? Now is a great time. It's not like what a lot of people suggest... eg reading about dictatorships the dynamic is very different, but there are parallels to current political fault lines.
And it's a hopeful book--
If you have read it? It's better the second time. I missed so many little things!

I'm re-reading Use of Weapons, and trying to figure out how I would cast Zakalwe. The best I've come up with so far is Hiddleston at the start and Clive Owen at the end.
You need someone who can embody the joy of effortless brilliance, and a slightly dopey charm, and then slowly peel it away to show some very profound damage.
I havenβt read much in the βContactβ sub-genre and really showcases how to write a two Very Different Species With a Severe Power Imbalance Relate To Each Other kind of story.
I think the last series I read in this particular corner of the SpecFic Family Tree was #IanMBanks in #TheCulture novels; which are great! But a bit dated.
