‘Fourth’: no concerns!

In one of our bedrooms there are what look like wooden painted rectangular sections in each corner that I can only assume ,as they have screws on the main facing side that they are there to cover wiring or pipes that come down from the loft. I've only ever looked in the loft once and briefly as there are no steps and a ridiculously small hatch. #IKnowNothing #IDreamOfWires #HowDoesthisEvenWork
If Socrates used a mastodon
"The only thing I know is that no matter which 'instance' I am on, I know nothing.
I asked the local admin 'Is decentralization a virtue?', and they banned me from the #philosophy channel. Instead of hemlock, they just give me 'Server Error 500' now."

Took me six months to replace a headlight bulb, last time was a nightmare this time was done in less than 10 minutes...I feel stupid now

So 6 year developing and I'm just realizing I do certain design patterns out of habit and didn't know they were design patterns. 🙃

Anyone else have this happen?

I am so puzzled by this thing. Nuclear power is expensive - much more expensive than renewables + storage, much more than coal.
Why?

The reference I am relying on is: https://www.csiro.au/en/research/technology-space/energy/Energy-data-modelling/GenCost
I read that there are no nuclear power projects at an Australian (SMR) scale that are economically sound. OK, but what is the unit costing problem in #nuclear? I imagine the electrical and steam parts of a nuclear power station are identical to the coal-fired versions, so the cost difference must be in the heat-making box.

I understand a reactor is not the same thing as a coal fire, but, is it really *that* much more complicated/expensive? It's at least triple the cost of coal, apparently.

#IKnowNothing thoughts:
1. this is one of those cases where engineers keep the know-how secret in order to give them job security.
2. multinationals operate a closed-shop to keep prices of new reactors high.
3. containment, processing, storage, non-proliferation and safety are really very very expensive indeed. Even more expensive than open-cut coal.

Is the high cost of #nuclear; a capitalism problem, or a physics problem?

Music That Made My Year

Kassi Valazza was born and raised in Arizona but now lives in Oregon. The second I heard the first single 'Watching Planes Go By' from her second full length album 'I Know Nothing' it was on heavy rotation on my playlist

"I think all of my songs are just reflections of myself and people I know. I don't think that we should take them super literally. That’s the fun with songwriting. When you hear something, you should be able to relate it to yourself in some way."
