Lake Myvatn and the Hverfjall crater, taken from the rim of said crater.
That day, we took a hike up this crater, around the rim and the other side down. From up there was a great view of Myvatn. Myvatn means "Mosquito Lake" btw. :D
At the foot of the crater on the other side started the lava field of Dimmuborgir.

“The Hike up Hverfjall”
The Hverfjall crater near Mývatn, Iceland, is believed to be one of the largest tephra craters on the planet. It was formed via a steam explosion when magma came into contact with underground water. The crater is 180 meters high at its peak and about 1km across.

To get to the top of the #Hverfjall #crater in #Myvatn, North #Iceland, you have to do a pretty steep climb. It's about 396 meter (1,300 ft) high and the climb would take about 20 minutes if you're fit and more if you're not. Unfortunately I belonged to the latter group. I was huffing, puffing, and cursing my way up. Been back in the area a couple of times since but this climb is one of the few Iceland experiences I haven't been tempted to do again.
