We went for an hour walk through the woods today and the drizzle had been coming down for a while. It was like I could hear everything around me giving some thanks for the rain. It’s been raining all afternoon. Like a little gift from sky to land. Yay, ‘e’ et lhum’uxw (yay, it is raining). #indigenous #language #gratitude #hulquminun #pnw
Though they drive the dog crazy we have a lot of rabbits around our place. They seem to love the clover and ignore the dog. Sququweth is how you say rabbit in #hulquminun. #indigenous #language #VancouverIsland #pnw
@Karmajingpa Ts’ey is #hulquminun, just across the Salish Sea on east #VancouverIsland.
Went for a walk in the woods today to get out of the heat for a bit and let the dog play in the creek. Qa is the #hulquminun word for fresh water and sqwiqwumi (Skwee kwuh mee) is the word for little dog. #MastoDogs #DogsOfMastodon #Indigenous #language #StillHere
We would say ‘e’ et lhum’uxw in #hulquminun meaning “it is raining”. #indigenous #languages #StillHere
Went for a walk with the #FrenchBulldog today on a new trail. Sign at the start said #wolves seen in the area. Made for a different kind of walk but I love living in a place we still share with wolves. Staqaye (stuh KAI uh) is the #hulquminun word for wolf. Hul’q’umi’num is the #language of this #CoastSalish territory.
Since the 1990’s, March 31 in Canada has been National #indigenous #languages day. Not that Canada has done much to promote or support the revitalization or celebrate the amazing lenses on how to be in the world. Nonetheless let’s #celebrate the people learning and teaching these beautiful languages here and around the world. They may hold the answer to human survival. #hulquminun #hawaiian #māori #sami #cree
