Howling no more
This baby howler monkey, called Domingo, is being treated at the International Animal Rescue Centre in Costa Rica. He has electrical burns on his hands and feet which came from climbing on uninsulated cables. The centre is campaigning to get the Costa Rican government to insulate power cables.

It’s so hot in Mexico that howler monkeys are falling dead from the trees. At least 138 of the midsize primates, who are known for their roaring vocal calls, have been found dead in the Gulf Coast state of Tabasco. Others were rescued by residents, including five that were rushed to a local veterinarian who battled to save them. Mexico has been hit by a harsh drought and extremely high temperatures. A third of the country saw highs of 113 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday. Lakes and dams are drying up and water supplies are running out. Authorities have had to truck in water for everything from hospitals to fire-fighting teams.
Kira, a mantled howler monkey, receives treatment after her mother was attacked by a dog in Costa Rica. She will join other infants in the nursery at the International Animal Rescue’s Sir Michael Uren Wildlife Rescue and Education Centre in Nosara for a rehabilitation process that will take several years before she can be released.
