Annual Conference

Maine Archives and Museums' Annual Conference brings together museum professionals from all across the state of Maine to exchange ideas, tackle challenges, and broaden skills. Whether you are a seasoned museum professional, volunteer, archivist, or the only staff member of a small historical society, the MAM conference program has something for everyone. Over 125 museum and archive professionals attend the conference each year to find inspiration, motivation and professional development opportunities.

Associated Press: "IMLS was established in 1996 by a Republican-led Congress and has a mission to “advance, support, and empower America’s museums, libraries, and related organizations through grantmaking, research, and policy development.” The institute combined the services of previous government agencies, including the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science and the Institute of Museum Services.

"It distributes thousands of grants nationwide, totaling in recent years to more than $200 million annually."

So the people wielding the chainsaws in Washington DC seem to think that nobody will miss the #IMLS. Such a piddly amount of money!

Maybe they don't read. Or watch video. Or have young children. Or do research. Or want to see historical photos and newspapers. Or visit museums. Or read.

What's happening with the Institute of Museum and Library Services?

The Institute of Museum and Library Services has been added to the list of government agencies targeted by President Donald Trump. In a recent executive order, he listed the institute among seven agencies to be dismantled “to the maximum extent of the law.” Trump has also installed a new acting director, Keith Sonderling. The institute, or IMLS, was established in 1996 and hands out thousands of grants worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The American Library Association has condemned Trump's actions, saying the IMLS is a vital source of support.

My dad was a member for many decades of the #Hawick Archaeological Society. I am finally going to join myself! Did plan to join yearly, but there is a very good #lifetime #membership rate, no minimum age. It is a gamble with my life threatening #illness, but saves renewing each year. #ScottishBorders #ScottishHistory #Scotland #Archaeology #History #HistoricalSocieties
Giving this a try. Hi! I’m a #publiclibrary director with a background in #museums and #historicalsocieties. I’m currently #writing a book about four interconnected and influential Black families from Connecticut, spanning from the 1750s to the 1890s.
