Can someone explain to me when the Republican Party switched from being about small government to supporting authoritarian rule?

I'm not crazy, am I? Those are two fully incompatible ideologies, right? Like, 200 executive orders in a single day, and dozens every day for the following week doesn't exactly scream small government to me. It screams massive government overreach, from my perspective.

Am I misunderstanding something?

And when did it happen? Did Reagan do it? Did he start it and it happened gradually? If I were a student in a world history class in Europe in 2090, how would that teacher explain this?

I am looking forward to two weeks of leave after I get through next week and I already want more time off. It has me thinking about some coworkers who say that after two weeks of leave they’re ready to get back to work. What on earth is that about? Are they sick of their families and home life or something? I really don’t understand. But I don’t have kids. #helpmeunderstand

I never could understand what Twitter is about and how to use it.
I've heard a lot of praise for Mastodon and I like the idea of federated platforms but ultimately I don't understand the idea of Mastodon either.
Could someone help me understand? Is the way you use this kind of platform like leaving a post on a public internet wall and hoping that someone would respond or react to it?
