My all-time favorite character in all of fiction is Leto Atriedes II from Frank Herbert's original Dune novels.

And my all-time favorite fan interpretation of what he might have looked like late into his metamorphosis.

I really don't want this book to end! then I think that there's only 2 books left after this... I kind of panic and think about what I'm going to read next, I mean following this has got to be hard but I need it.

What a book! I am blown away by the provocative thoughts that come from this book. Frank Herbert was a true craftsman able to bring visions of thoughts of the complex emotions that make us human from an interesting viewpoint that was previously unknown and yet so compelling.

Wow

Just wow

Evidently what you thought might be the end can in fact be the beginning of a whole new level of crazy.
Frank Herbert continues to impress me with his craft.

Truly a delight to be along for the ride

Can finally get back to reading #godemperorofdune now

Both Dune Messiah and Children of Dune turned out to be a lot better than I remembered. God Emperor of Dune, however, did not.

It’s certainly an ambitious book, trying to tell the story of 3500 year old entity with memories going back to the dawn of humanity, but it all falls a bit flat for me.

For me the problem with this novel is twofold.

The first problem is that not much happens. There is very little narrative in here and what we have instead is the human/sandworm hybrid of Leto II sharing his millennia-old wisdom with those around him, and then being either amused or annoyed when they fail to keep up with him.

This leads into the second problem, which is that for someone who has direct memories of the whole of humanity, his insights are remarkably similar to those of a middle aged man living in the second half of the 20th Century.

There are some interesting themes and ideas in here but, for far too much of the novel, it just feels like Frank Herbert pontificating.
