If I have any schadenfreude at all, it's this:
The #shitshow in the House these past 3 days has absolutely vindicated my position that THERE ARE NO POLITICAL INDEPENDENTS. "Centrists" and "moderates" are a both a fig leaf for partisans, and a figment of people's imagination.
Anyone who has a coherent political philosophy of any kind *is forced to choose a side.*
They might not wholeheartedly endorse everything that side stands for. But they are closer to one side than the other. And if they want to get anything done, they have to commit.
The sides:
Dems: Good (accountable) governance and equal rights: "We should have fair elections where everyone gets to vote and whoever gets the most votes wins."
GOP: Obstructionism, conspiracy theories, public lying, bad faith and white supremacy: "We shouldn't have elections if that means we might lose."
There's no sugar coating this unless you're basically a weasel committed to injustice--who's too embarrassed to own up to what you believe. There's no "fiscally conservative, socially liberal." There's no way to say "I like Dem policies, but they're alienating moderates."
You going to try to say any of that bullshit with a straight face? 😂 😂
Pick a side. Or you're a coward in denial.
