It is also deeply connected to Rietveld's and De Stijl's social ideas. Rietveld also used the same ideas to make his crate chair affordable for everyday Dutch in the difficult post-war years.

The older I get, the more I appreciate his philosophy. I bought this one used from 🇳🇱, I think it was purchased from Metz & Co. in the 1960s or 70s.

The blue paint is their work. I replaced the hardware, but kept the rusty originals.
