I have released a new version of my #Moodle #gapfill question type to the moodle org Plugins database. Gapfill makes it very easy to create "fill in the gaps" style quesitons and includes features not available in any other Moodle quesiton type.
This version adds support for the default tinyMCE html editor when creating per gap feedback.

I have updated my #Moodle #Gapfill question type to confirm compatibility with Moodle 5.1
Although there are big changes to the folder structure for Moodle 5.1 no functional changes were required for Gapfill. This makes me optimistic about confirming compatibility for my #Wordselect and #AIText question types.

ByCS Lernplattform who look after the #Moodle used in the schools in the German state of Bavaria have a new #questionbank plugin.
It uses a #LLM #AI to generate quiz questions. It works with core question types and I adapted it to work with my #gapfill question type in under an hour. That was a configuration task rather than programming.
It is very good
This plugin allows you to automatically create questions using a large language model. It currently requires the local_ai_manager plugin (https://github.com/bycs-lp/moodle-local_ai_manager) that manages the connection to the external AI system. It's a fork of the "AI Text to questions generator" created by Yedidia Klein and Ruthy Salomon.

I made my first github commit for the #Moodle #Gapfill question type In April 2012. I have made 1,510 commits since then. This year on Feb 5 2025 Mark Johnson reported a bug in backup caused by spelling errors in field names.

I have created a #behat test to reproduce the bug and a patch to fix it. It took approximately 5 hours in total.
All software has bugs, automated tests are not a luxury.

It confirms compatibility with Moodle 4.5 and includes a fix for a PHP 8.2 related issue. Gapfill is a very easy to use #Cloze fill in the blanks, or drag drop words question type.

I released my #Moodle #Gapfill question type in 2012, as a way of “scratching the itch” caused when I found the existing #Cloze question type hard to use.

Fourteen years on and it is recorded as being installed on (at least) 4,700 web sites, and that makes me happy. Meanwhile I have made a slight contribution to a plugin that makes Cloze a little easier to use
